Project Activity Details

Daily activities of volunteer will be organized in the office of the organization with people from the organization team. Volunteer will have his/her own work space, that includes pc/lap top and internet. Office is located in the city center, is 65 m2 that includes one office, one workshop room, a toilet, a kitchen for the preparation of tea/coffee and food and a big balcony; additionally, as the office is located in the house, there is a yard suitable for the outdoor activities. Office also has the equipment such as printers, scanner, digital cameras, video and music production equipment and similar. However, the work will occasionally demand work with bigger groups of youngsters in local schools, youth offices, during seminars or organization of bigger events.
The volunteers with the service in Nis will have the conditions to develop their language skills through learning Serbian; the Serbian language lessons will be organized in cooperation with Serbian language teacher 2 times a week.

Some of the typical activities are:
- EVS volunteer will have the task to organize different workshops for local youth in order to improve the quality of their free time; He/she will also have a chance to organize his/her own 2 workshops per week - one about culture, history, language, customs of the country the volunteer comes from; the second workshop will be free activity for the volunteers. The topics can be quite diverse and this will be the opportunity for the volunteer to develop his/her own ideas. Our experience showed that it was good for volunteer to provide him/her with the autonomy to organize something he/she would like to organize and give him/her opportunity to develop more in the field that he/she is particularly interested in. It fosters the motivation of the volunteers, especially if they are engaged in long-term EVS projects. In addition to this, if the volunteer is placed in KOM 018 during the summer, he/she will participate in the preparation of “Dodji na Amfi” street art event (Come to Amfi) – event that gathers young hip hop artists for two days event.

- Info service of the organization–EVS volunteers will be engaged in the info service of KOM 018 obtaining and providing information to the beneficiaries such as educational and training opportunities as well as EVS opportunities through Open Doors activity. EVS volunteers will have a task to update information about EVS opportunities and other educational opportunities for young people in Nis, they will provide information about EVS program, placement, experience and support young people in the search for EVS projects, help them with application documents (how to write motivation letter, CV) and use their own experience to prepare future EVS volunteers. EVS volunteers will in this way learn to share and transfer their own experience to support others, learn how to present EVS and other programs, how to update and manage social platforms that provide EVS information and similar.

- Activities within Hate Fighters program –Hate Fighters program has a basic idea to educate young people about combat against hate speech online. The program was created by young people, with the support of the experts, so the set of peer education workshops was developed as well as a song and choreography “Stop Hate Speech”, as well as graphics (comics, illustrations, stencils etc) and photos that promote combat against hate speech. Next step that follows the education part is organization and taking part in the local actions that promote combat against hate speech online, so young people who participate in both segments become hate fighters. KOM 018 also organizes and leads Hate Fighters Network, with the secretariat in Nis. Volunteers will be included in the following way: they will, together with Hate Fighters team be responsible for the organization and implementation of the activities – will organize creative and peer education workshops, provide logistical support to the team, create a date base of the participants, support the organization of events in the town such as flash mobs, distribution of promotional events, participation in the events such as different sport events, cultural events, parties or festivals. Through this activity EVS volunteers will learn generally about the problem of hate speech online and offline. At the same time they will be able to explore and expand their own creative potential (for photography, graphics, video, music or dance) when engaged in the program. They will also learn how to use different methods to raise awareness about social issues and how to organize local and international campaigns.

- Administrative work - Volunteers will give general support to the organization such as team meetings, administrative tasks, website update, logistics, etc.

- Volunteer will be able to participate in the international projects organized by KOM 018 as a support (the topics of trainings/seminars/youth meetings are different - human rights, hate speech online, intercultural dialogue, creative methods in youth work, street art etc.).
Every volunteer would be engaged five days a week, 5-6 hours a day, including lunch break. Weekends are free. This working time can be flexible depending on the work. If he/she works during the weekend due to the activities, or works longer hours during the trainings/seminars, she/he will have days off accordingly. Working hours will involve language lessons two times a week, as well as meeting with mentor and supervisor once a week. National holidays are days off. The volunteer will have two weeks off in agreement with HO. He/she will have a support for the application for on-arrival training organized by SALTO.
Volunteers will learn about their tasks with the help of supervisor and the team that works in KOM 018 (trainers in different fields). In the long-term placements, volunteers will learn the basics of the programs that we do with the constant support of the team. They will regularly attend team meetings, where they will be able to discuss all important matters and possible problems. Team will provide constant support and work together with volunteer.
